S. Kent Butler, PhD Elected as 70th President of the ÀÖ²©´«Ã½

S. Kent Butler, University of Central Florida interim chief equity, inclusion and diversity officer and professor, has been elected to serve as the ÀÖ²©´«Ã½ (ACA) President-elect beginning July 1, 2020. Dr. Butler will begin serving as the ÀÖ²©´«Ã½â€™s 70th president on July 1, 2021.

Dr. Butler is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a National Certified School Counselor (NCSC).

An ÀÖ²©´«Ã½Fellow, he is a member of the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development (AMCD) Multicultural and Social Justice Counseling Competencies (MSJCC) Committee and founder and co-chairperson of the AMCD Writer’s Consortium. Dr. Butler is a past president of the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development (AMCD) and has served as an ÀÖ²©´«Ã½Governing Council Representative. He was the AMCD Delegate, ÀÖ²©´«Ã½, on the 20/20 A Vision for the Future Committee.

Dr. Butler is a member of the ÀÖ²©´«Ã½; the ÀÖ²©´«Ã½Southern Region; the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES); the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development (AMCD); the Association for Spiritual, Ethical and Religious Values in Counseling (ASERVIC); Counselors for Social Justice (CSJ); and a number of state and regional organizations representing the counseling profession.

He has worked as an educator at the University of Central Florida, the College of William & Mary, the University of Missouri – St. Louis and the University of Connecticut. His research focus is to effectively enrich the lives of all people through the preparation of highly qualified culturally competent helping professionals.

Dr. Butler earned a PhD in Educational Psychology/Counseling Psychology and Counselor Education, an MA in Counseling Psychology/School Counseling and a BA in Communication Sciences at the University of Connecticut.
